Further west and south-west, the day starts on a wetter note, with rain or drizzle around during the morning and a fresher breeze near coasts. Conditions should become a little more manageable later, though it may stay rather grey and damp at times. Northern England sees a changeable day: some brighter moments, but also patchy drizzle, with rain more likely later in the afternoon and into the evening, particularly towards western areas. Roads may turn damp for the homeward journey, so allow a little extra time if you’re travelling. For Scotland, it’s on the cool side with highs around 16 or 17°C. There will be a fair amount of cloud, a noticeable breeze, and some rain developing around the middle of the day, especially across central and eastern parts. Northern Ireland also has a few damp spells, though there may be drier intervals and perhaps a late glimpse of brightness. Overall, not a washout by any means, but worth keeping a waterproof handy if you’re out and about, particularly in the west and north. Temperatures are fairly modest for September, and with the breeze it may feel distinctly autumnal at times.
