Tuesday 6th January Good morning to you all on this crisp Tuesday, the 6th of January, 2026, as we find ourselves fully immersed in the heart of winter across the UK. Let's have a look at what the weather is shaping up to be today. Starting with the south-east, we're waking up to some chilly conditions. Temperatures here are hovering around the lower single digits, peaking around 4.5°C during the day. A touch of light rain is expected, so a brolly might be wise if you're venturing out, though winds remain relatively mild, all things considered. Over in Scotland, the wintry chill persists with highs not quite reaching 4°C. While the morning begins somewhat bright in parts, it's best to brace for patchy rain as the day unfolds. A bit of a blustery day, too, with gusts picking up, so do wrap up warmly. Into the Midlands and northern England, the mercury dips further, with temperatures struggling above freezing. Central areas may see a drizzle here and there, whilst northern parts could enjoy a few early sunny spells, although these will quickly turn to cloud before the night brings more rain to the forecast. Be mindful if you're driving, as the frost lingers from a very cold night. Across Wales, today seems a touch milder compared to other parts, with temperatures grazing just over 6°C. Some sunny intervals might grace the early hours, but there's a spot of light rain likely to interrupt outdoor plans, and those breezes might pick up speed as we head into the evening. Moving towards Northern Ireland, wet conditions are more pronounced, particularly with a band of rain passing through this morning and again later on. Temperatures are hovering in the mid-single digits, accompanied by brisk winds that might make it feel slightly colder. Heading down towards the south-west, we see relatively mild temperatures, peaking at nearly 9°C. Rainfall is expected, especially later on, and the coastal winds could be a tad gusty at times, so perhaps an indoors day is on the cards if you're near the shore.
