Wednesday 31st December Good morning, everyone! It’s Wednesday, the 31st of December 2025, and as we prepare to ring in the New Year, let's see what the weather has in store for us across the UK. Down in the south-east, expect a crisp winter’s day with sunshine peeking out around lunchtime. Temperatures will struggle to rise above 4°C, so you might want to wrap up warm if you’re heading out for a midday walk. In the Midlands, it’s a nippy start with temperatures hovering just around freezing in the morning. While it’ll stay dry, the sunshine will be more of an early riser here, making a brief appearance before most of us are fully awake. Over in Wales, much of the day will be clouded over, but don’t let that dissuade your afternoon plans. The clouds will make way for some sunshine later in the afternoon and early evening, just in time for any pre-celebration outings. The north of England will see a mix of brisk temperatures and some bright intervals. Newcastle will enjoy clear skies early in the day, making for a chilly but refreshing start. Meanwhile, those on the western coasts around Liverpool might notice a bit more of a breeze than the rest, though it’ll stay dry throughout. Scotland is relatively mild compared to its reputation for cold at this time of year. With highs around 6°C in parts, the lack of rain will be a welcome relief, even as the wind picks up a little. Finally, over in Northern Ireland, there's a slight chance of showers in the morning, but don’t let that deter your plans. Some sunshine is expected as the day moves on, and it’ll stay fairly mild with a touch of wind. So whether you're out walking, preparing for some New Year’s Eve activities, or simply popping to the shops, the weather isn’t likely to put too much of a damper on your day.
